Monthly Update

Shep

Stats: 14 lbs. 13 oz. and 25.5 inches long

Milestones and Firsts: Shep is smiling and laughing up a storm.  He has great head control and loves sitting up on our laps and facing out so he can soak everything in or hanging out in the carrier.  We haven't seen any rolling going on.  But who needs to roll when you have a big sister to watch and handing you everything, right?  We are also guilty because he is just too sweet to be put down sometimes!  He is no longer being swaddled to sleep and speaking of sleep he is sleeping at night like a champ!

Favorite Things: Hands down, his big sister!  He watches her constantly and she can make him giggle like no other.  He loves his paci when going to sleep and anything small he can get his hands on and put in his mouth.

Least Favorite Things: He doesn't like to be hungry but who does haha!

Signature Moves: He loves sucking on his fingers and watching his big sister!  He cannot seem to take his eyes off of her.

Lucy-  Two and a half.  Still obsessed with shoes, all things cats, and the color purple (which is the only color I hate of course).  Every time I say I think we just finished the terrible twos I am proven very much so wrong so we won't comment on that.  Lucy knows just what voice to use to get whatever she wants because who can resist that sweet tone and how do they learn these things?!?  You can find her playing in her kitchen or rocking her babies to sleep or drawing in a notebook.  She can now say her name instead of "CiCi" you will hear "Lllluuuucy" since we were trying hard for her to say those beginning "Lu" sounds.  You will hear "otay" for ok and lots of "no ma'ams" but I can't get her to say yes ma'am for the life of me. She loves to sing Baby Shark, the Bumblebee song, Milkshake by Koo Koo Kangaroo, Wheels on the Bus, and the ABCs.  She loves her back patted at night and it is the best when she asks to be rocked before bedtime because it is the only time she will cuddle and stay still.

Lucy // 2

Lucy turned 2 in October and I still can't believe it.  Now I swear she gets more and more "spirited" as the days go on, but that comes with so much sweetness I can't handle it.

Milestones and Firsts // Lucy's language is just exploding. She seems to be soaking in new words daily.  She is also now sleeping in a toddler bed so we could pass on her crib to Shep and she transitioned wonderfully.  She is now a big sister.  I was terrified of this transition, but it is better than I expected and we are all honestly having to navigate how to be a family of four.  One day at a time!  She is showing interest in using the potty and uses it a lot at school.  We are just letting her guide us at home and not doing too much on our part quite yet.

Favorite Things // Necklaces and bracelets, cats, school buses, pretty lights (Christmas lights), baby dolls, and cheddar bunnies.  It is hilarious to us how clear she can say cheddar bunnies!  She is obsessed with the movie Moana, although we are desperate to find another movie for her to fall in love with.  It was cute the first few times, but now...Her obsession with cats is really funny.  She wore a cat costume for Halloween and has wanted to wear it every day since.  It has a tail on the back of the shirt and she loves to tell everyone "I got a tail".  I also found one my cat stuffed animals growing up named "fluffy" that Lucy has just fallen in love with.

Favorite Foods // With our advent calendar, she has discovered a love of Hershey kisses.  I was giving it to her in her hand and it would melt and get absolutely everywhere so since then, I open it and put it in her mouth.  When she opens up the calendar each day, she will now open her mouth and jump up and down with her tongue out waiting for her "chalk"- so funny.  She also loves any kind of cookie and muffin.  I am finding it harder and harder to get her to eat nutritious food that she once would eat, but she does have a new love of Lara Bars which makes us so happy.

Least Favorite Things // Not being able to sleep in all of her statement jewelry and being asked to eat things besides snacks.

Signature Moves // Saying "bless you" and "cover mouth" when we cough or sneeze, calling herself "Cece" for Lucy, asking for a diaper change or a trip to the bathroom to "wash hans".  She also loves singing "The Wheels on the Bus" and just started singing "Jingle Bells"- most precious thing I've ever heard!  She also does a lot of repeating what we say, but yesterday I asked her what she did at school and she told me "paint hand".  It is so amazing to watch her communication skills take off!

Fall Update

This poor little blog is so neglected these days, but I love having it to look back on.  I especially love all of the Lucy updates and sweet memories, so I wanted to catch up on what we have been up to this fall.

I started my 6th year of teaching.  I am with 4 year olds again this year and couldn't have found a more perfect fit.  I love this sweet age group.

We celebrated Jonathan's 29th birthday with dinner and Jeni's with friends and went to a Carolina football game as a gift from his parents. (I was 36 weeks pregnant at the game.)

My precious friend Brittney totally surprised me with a perfect sprinkle brunch for Baby #2.

Fall was such a sweet time with Lucy.  Highlights were going to a local pumpkin patch and trick or treating for the first time.

We spent lots of time preparing our homes and hearts for Baby #2.

We welcomed sweet Baby Shepherd (Shep) on November 21st at 7:10 p.m., just in time for Thanksgiving.

Summer 2017

It is hard to believe Lucy has begun her transition back to school this week and we are just a few days away from jumping back into real life. I know I say this every year, but I am so incredibly thankful for my job.  Being able to have a career that gets the entire summer off and amazing breaks in between is such a gift.  Highlights from the summer included spending a week at the beach in New Smyrna, FL, spending a day at Seaworld, a week at Lake Norman, NC for the 4th of July.  Lucy even spent a few days with her grandparents in Murrells Inlet while we cleaned out our entire house and got rid of all of the things we don't use.  This summer was mostly filled with lots of everyday simple things- trips to the park, walks, sprinkler and pool set up in the backyard, popsicles, and aquarium trips.  It is sad to see summer coming to an end, but this sweet season can't last forever.

4th of July 2017

We spent a week with family at Lake Norman, NC to celebrate the 4th of July.  It was full of cooking out, fishing, kayaking, floating, and reading.  Lucy wasn't crazy about having to wear a lifejacket on the dock or getting in the water, but loved hanging out in her little pool set up in the backyard and eating popsicles.  It was the perfect last little getaway of the summer.

Lucy // 20 Months

Summer has been treating us very well.  Going into summer, I was so excited to spend it with Lucy at this age.  I have to say though I don't know what wears me out more, 20 four years old or 1 toddler!  So far we've been to the aquarium, the pool, the beach for a week, & spent lots of time in the backyard coloring with chalk, running in the sprinklers, and eating ice pops.

It has also been a few months since I did a little update:

Milestones and Firsts: Lucy seems to be soaking in so much.  She is comprehending so much of what we say to her and seems to learning new words every day.

Favorite Things:  Lucy is fearless when it comes to slides or climbing our furniture! She continues to adore animals.  We have been taking lots of trips to our local aquarium this summer and she loves looking at all of the different animals, especially the tanks she can walk right up to.  We are going to take her to a zoo on the way to the lake on Saturday and I can't wait to see her reaction to the elephants and giraffes.

Favorite Foods: Pirate Booty, cuties, cheese sticks, greek yogurt in a pouch, and apple slices

Other Favorites: Coloring, play-dough, new shoes, building with blocks, stickers

Least Favorite Things:  When we don't quite understand what she is trying to tell us

Signature Moves: Getting so excited at every dog she sees and demanding to pick out her own shoes (and switch them out throughout the day).

The last exciting thing about being 20 months is that we just found out yesterday that Lucy is going to be a big sister to a baby BOY!

Thankful for lots of summer left and excited to start thinking about all of the boy things!
